Kimbolton Castle Sprint Distance Pool Triathlon

Pre Race Brief


Welcome to the Kimbolton Castle Pool Triathlon Race Brief. Please take the time to read and understand the following Pre race Brief.  I know you have probably read hundreds of these, but it is important that you understand our requirements and that which are required by the governing bodies.

RACE STARTS TIMES

08:00am onwards

Mandatory race brief at 07:45am by the pool entrance.

PARKING
This will be at the venue, PE28 0EA within 100m of  transition. On arrival please leave your equipment in your vehicle and register first, this will relieve the congestion of bikes in the registration area. Please do not enter through the main school entrance, follow all car park signs and marshals to the allocated parking areas.


REGISTRATION
Will be OPEN 06:30am and CLOSE 07:30am Sharp. Please don’t be late.


IMPORTANT
Please ensure you bring your race licence. You will be charged for a licence if you can not produce it. BTF Day Race licences will need to be purchased at £5 on the day for those who are not members of the BTF. REMEMBER  No licence, No race (This is your insurance for the day’s racing)

In your race pack you will find FREE race belt (not a t-shirt) 1 x race number,  2 x stickers. These must be applied to your bike handle bars/seat post and to your helmet

YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO TRANSITION WITHOUT THIS BEING DONE FIRST.

Prior to entry to transition you will be required to have your hand marked with your race number, your bike and helmet having the stickers attached and your helmet must be on and done up.
Do all this prior to presenting yourself to the transition marshals or you will be turned away.


SWIM 400m

16 lengths of 25m. There will be 3 maximum per lane at anyone time and this will be adjusted as the times/competitors get faster. You are required to count your own lengths. (Elastic bands are a good trick: Swap from wrist to wrist at the start of each length)  Tumble turns are allowed.

YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SWIM “BACKSTROKE” AT OUR EVENTS


TRANSITION AND MOUNT (Racks will be numbered and named)
From the swim run into transition, find your bike, do not touch your bike until you have put you cycle helmet on and fastened it. Run with your bike out of transition via the exit marked with bike out signs. Do not get on your bike until you reach the marked mount line. You mount you bike AFTER  the line. Remember at this point your race number should be displayed on your back.


BIKE 19km lap  

Once on your bike leave the venue with a left hand turn taking extreme care  as you join the carriage way. The bike course is on open roads with no road closures so ensure you follow the Highway Code at all times. This event is a non-drafting race i.e. you cannot take shelter behind or beside another competitor or motor vehicle and will be penalized if reported to be drafting.  Please read the new drafting rules HERE

Look out for the signs and marshals to keep you on the right course. Pay particular attention on the country lanes and at the junctions. It’s YOUR responsibility to know the course, do not rely on signs and marshals,although it is very well signed and marshalled.


DISMOUNT
Once back in the park you will dismount your bike BEFORE the marked dismount line, run with your bike through entrance marked bike in, rack back in the same place you removed it from, you may then remove you helmet. Then run out at the opposite end of transition marked with run out signs.

Ensure your race number is now facing forwards.


RUN  5km 
Exit the transition  follow the marked course (flags/ arrows/ and tapes).  Marshals will be on all turns, There will be a water station as you lap past transition. As you near the final stages of the run please ensure you go down the finish straight and not on for more laps than needed.


FINISH
In the competitors village you will find refreshments, results tent for you instant print outs. A massage service that will be on hand prior too and after the race to ease those tired muscles.

Prior to leaving the finish area can you please ensure your chip is removed and placed in the bin provided. There will be marshals to assist with this! There will be a TV screen for you to get instant results and splits.

Bike retrieval at the end of the race will only be allowed once the last cyclist has left for their run and only competitors will be allowed into transition.


FIRST AID
Nicetri and medical services Ltd will be providing first aid cover for the event. If you are injured
or witness a fellow competitor getting injured please alert a marshal who will call for assistance, there are marshals out on the course whom are first aid trained.


PRESENTATIONS 
There will be a presentation once the last compeitior has finished. Due to the time trial format of the race you will be unable to know your final finishing position untill the race is complete. We will announce when the presentations will take place. We will not post out those that are not collected.

On race day there will be stalls selling that pre-race bacon butty,Teas/coffee ETC

The race will be run according to the BTF rules. Anyone breaking the rules will be penalised and may be disqualified. The BTF race referee’s decision is final

This fun and friendly event is suitable for all ages and abilities.
It will see them complete a swim within Kimboltons pool, then head out in the countryside for a one lap bike course. The final decent on the bike should see some fast times being put down in 2016. The  run is within the grounds of Kimbolton Castle, be carefull though, dont take in the scenic views to much or it will all be over before you know it. The distances are suitable, safe and achievable for all taking part. The event is fully chip timed and all finishers will be presented with a well deserved medal as they cross the finish line

Swim

To allow this event to run smoothly and safely, only officals and competitors will be allowed on the poolside. Competitors can be escorted through the changing facilities where they will be meet buy a member of our friendly events team who will guide them to their allocated start position. 

Your start times will be allocated on the day of the race, You will have to be racked by 07:45 latest. (There will be no open transition) We will do our best to keep to your allocated start time, however, where other competitors have underestimated their swim times, this can cause delays. If you need to overtake another competitor during your swim, please follow the normal etiquette of tapping them gently on the foot, and overtaking at the next available end. If you are tapped on the foot by another competitor, please allow them to pass you when you reach the end of that length of the pool.

  • Sprint Distance        400m swim (16 Lengths)

Tumble turns are permitted – if you are not doing a tumble turn then just touch the wall at the end of the lane with your hand. Leave the pool with care, it may be slippery, via the emergency exit, into transition.

Bike

On completion of the swim you will run to  transition where you can get your bike and head out onto the bike course. Helmets must be securely fastened before you touch your bike. Competitors will be told when to mount their bikes. The bike 1 loop and  is well marked and marshaled. Competitors are responsible for knowing the route, although the route will be clearly signed and well marshalled.

  • 19km   (1 loop)

On completion of the bike, you enter transition and rack your bike on the allocated racking where you removed it from. Once you have racked your bike you can remove your  helmet, put on your shoes with race number facing forward and exit transition for the run.

Run

The run takes place on the fields (flat well kept grass) adjacent to the Castle and pool.  The competitors are responsible for how many loops they are doing.

  •  5km       (3 loops)

Once competitors have completed the correct amount of  loops they can run through the finish and collect their well deserved medals.

Parking

Parking will be at the venue, please follow all signage and marshals.  (200m from transition)

Arrival and Registration

You will collect your race pack at registration on the day of the event. Nothing will be posted prior to the event.

A full race brief / information will be sent out via email  once online entries close. (Normally Wednesday prior to the race, Please note we only send to the email address you registered with) The full race brief will be posted on the webpage by the Wednesday prior to the race as well.

Registration will be open from  06:30am – 07:30 am on race day. Please ensure you arrive early to avoid that last minute rush.

Minimum age of competitors

The minimum age to take part is 15 years old as of age on 31st December 2016                                                                      

Identification

You will be issued with a race number which must be clearly visible on your front or back at all times. You will also be number marked on your hand with a pen. Number belts are allowed, all we ask it that we can see your number at the timing points as a backup to the electronic system.

Transition

The racking will be numbered and in swim speed order. There will be no outside assistance is permitted there will be plenty of transition marshals to help if needed.

British Triathlon Federation Rules

BTF rules All competitors must comply with BTF rules (it is recommended that you read the BTF rules and regulations which will be applied to all races) All competitors must be licensed to race, those non BTF members will be required to pay a £5 levy for a day licence, this is payable on the day at registration. (This is not included in your entry fee) BTF members must produce their licence at registration or a £5 levy will be charged prior to racing.

Safety

If circumstances deem the course or travel conditions to be unsafe or it falls outside of the BTF guidelines, Nicetri have the right to change/move, or cancel the event at short notice.   Terms and Conditions Terms and Conditions

Keep Racing Tidy

If you intend on using race nutrition please keep hold of the empty wrappers untill you reach a suitable place to discard it. We would apprieciate if you could either wait until you reach designated water stations or alternately please drop them by race signage or a marshal point so they can be collected during the race clean up. 

Chip Timing

Chip Timing Solutions will provide computerised chip timing via an electronic chip system that you attach to your ankle. Please attach the chip to your LEFT ankle and make sure your run over/through the mats at the various timing points. Your finish time and splits will be available live during the event and after at www.chiptimingsolutions.com

Transition Rules

Security will always be present in the transition area. Only competitors wearing their I.D. will be allowed in or out of this area. Your race pack will include a race number and 2 smaller labels which are to be attached to your bike and helmet, this must be done prior to entering transition. You must rack your bike in the numbered position. No riding is allowed in the transition area. Your helmet must be fastened on your head at all times whilst you are on your bike or running with your bike through transition.

Race start

Race start times will be from 07:45am (TBC in the pre race brief)

A list off all alloctaed individual start times will be produced nearer the time

Briefing

Race Briefing will take place prior to the race.

Prizes are both for men and women. One prize per competitor.
