Pre Race Brief

Welcome to Kimbolton Half Marathon Race Brief. Please take the time to read and understand the following Pre race Brief. I know you have probably read hundreds of these, but it is important that you understand our requirements and that are required by the governing bodies.

Distances: 13.1 mile road race

RACE STARTS TIMES

*Fun Run 09:00am Start*
*Half Marathon 10:00am Start*

Age: Minimum age of competitors is 17 on the day.

Parking: Open from 07:30 am. It will be in the School grounds. Please follow signs and marshal instructions.


MAIN REGISTRATION

RACE DAY COLLECTION

Open from 08:00am In the Large marques situated at the bottom of the Mall, follow the signs from the car parks, here you will collect your running number. Your timing chip will already be attached to the number please do not bend, fold or put pins through chip, please remember to wear your race number,

NO RACE NUMBER = NO TIME

Registration for the main race will close promptly at 09:30am, so ensure you leave in plenty of time and please understand there are 800 other athletes and fun runners also registering, so please dont leave it till the last minute.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you arrive after 09:30am you will not be able to register.

Please note: Nothing will be posted to you; registration is on the day only. Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time to register and prepare yourselves (The race will start at 10:00am with or without you).


HALF MARATHON COURSE

VIEW THE COURSE HERE

Follows an undulating but scenic all road route, which passes through Tilbrook, Upper Dean, Risley and Swinshead before heading back to Kimbolton.Be advised this is not a traffic free route. Take care! You must run on the left at all times, it is mandatory that you stay in the left hand carraigeway at all times, anyone seen crossing the white lines will be disqualified, there are officials on bikes checking this for us, you have been warned! No headphones are permitted during this race unless UKA permitted bone conductors.

Water Stations: Are situated at approximately 3 miles, 6.5 miles, 9 miles and at the finish. (These are all water bottles only with the lids removed.)

Personal Race Fluid and Nutrition: If you carry and use gels or other types of nutrition while running. Please discard the wrappers at the water stations, or the bottle dump bags after each water station. If you can carry it full, you can carry it empty.

Sorry, but anyone caught discarding litter outside the drop zones will be disqualified and their results removed. (Please respect the countryside and do your bit for the enviroment)


FIRST AID

Nicetri and Medical services Ltd will be providing first aid cover for the event. If you are injured or witness a fellow competitor getting injured please alert the nearest marshal who will call for assistance, there are marshals out on the course whom are first aid trained. If another athlete becomes seriously ill please do you best to help. There will be a medical station at 6 miles on route and at the start and finish. (Please ensure you complete your  medical & contact information on the back of your race number.) On the back on the number is a contact number for the race director. Should an emergency arise ring this number, we will them  liase with medical teams on course to come to your location.

Main Presentation: When the last runner has finished or 12.30pm outside the registration tents. If you want your prize please stay or arrange for some to collect in your absence.


FINISH AREA

At the finish you will find refreshments and you will be given your well deserved finishers medal.

If you require a post race massge. Alan and his team from Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therpay – for the St.Neots Area will be in the finish area to sooth thoses tired muscles.


RESULTS

SPECTATORS

The start and finish will be well marshaled and cordoned for your safety. please don’t climb on the barriers.

Toilets & Changing:
Toilet facilities are available at the registration and start/finish area.

Baggage storage will be available if required. Your baggage tag can be collected from regsitration. Use this facility at your own risk we accept no responsibility for loss or damage however so caused.

Refreshments: available at registration and after the race.

Kimbolton Castle Half Marathon & Fun Run

2017 race was a sell out and 2018 will be no different, please ensure you book early to avoid disappointment.

2018 will see the 6th running of the half marathon in and around the beautiful historic village of Kimbolton. The route will be exactly the same as 2016, so you can aim to beat your time if you ran last year!

Competitors will receive all the elements you would expect from a high profile City Centre Running event, including online registration, chip timing, UKA measured course for  2018, professional event medical cover, high quality medals and a technical t-shirt for all finishers

Routes

The route is a one-lap course on country roads. The course, which is a slightly undulating, but scenic all road route, that passes through Tilbrook, Upper Dean, Risley and Swinshead before heading back to Kimbolton. The Course will be fully marshalled and policed. You must obey the instructions of the marshals and/0r police at all times. You MUST race on the LEFT HAND SIDE of the road unless instructed otherwise by a marshal.    

Arrival and Registration

PLEASE NOTE you will collect your race pack at registration on the day of the event. Nothing will be posted prior to the event.

A FULL race brief will be emailed to your registered email address during the week leading up to the event. If for any reason you don’t receive this email, full race information will be available HERE at least two days prior to the event, Please ensure you check the web site and your email prior to travel for any important updates.

Registration will be open from 08:00 – 09:30 on race day only. Please ensure you arrive early to avoid that last minute rush

Toilets and Bag Storage

Race Headquarters is where you will find toilets, bag storage and refreshment facilities.  DO NOT USE THE STREETS OR SCHOOL GROUNDS AS A TOILET. anyone caught will be instantly disqualified, it’s also illegal and there will be plenty of marshals around, you have been warned.

A supervised baggage storage area will be provided at HQ. fill in your label and hand it in. Storage will be at the owner’s risk.

Minimum age of competitors

The minimum age to take part in this event is 17 years old on the day of the race.

Parking

Parking will be at the venue  and surrounding car parks follow marshals and signs.

Identification

You will be issued with a race number which must be clearly visible either on your front at all times.  Number belts are allowed, all we ask it that we can see your number at the timing points as a backup to the electronic system. YOU MUST NOT ALLOW ANY ONE ELSE TO RACE WITH YOUR NUMBER.

Safety

If circumstances deem the course or travel conditions to be unsafe or it falls outside of the UKA guidelines, Nicetri have the right to change/move, or cancel the event at short notice.

Chip Timing

Chip Timing Solutions will provide computerised chip timing via an electronic chip system that will be issued to you with your number.  Your finish time and splits will be available as you cross the line and for your spectators live online via a smart phone instantly.

Race start

Main race start  will be at 10 am. Ensure you arrive in plenty of time as registration is a five minute walk from car parking (follow signs) Be ready for race briefing at 09.50 am

Water Stations

Drink stations at approximately 3, 6, and 9 miles.

Bottle water will be supplied at the water stations, There will be numerous BOTTLE & GEL  drops around the course please ensure you use them or carry it until you find one. RANDOM BOTTLE & GEL DROPPING WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.

Keep Racing Tidy

If you intend on using race nutrition please keep hold of the empty wrappers untill you reach a suitable place to discard it. We would apprieciate if you could either wait until you reach designated water stations or alternately please drop them by race signage or a marshal point so they can be collected during the race clean up.
